Covering the Bases

February 20, 2008

Just a few thoughts I’ve been meaning to post and I’m finally getting to it:

Cubbies tickets go on sale Friday. As I previously wrote, the Mets are here for two games on April 21st and April 22nd. Can we say what boring timing? I would’ve loved a warm summer weekend again. Some friends at work scored bleacher seats early-on so I made it my mission to contact the local Mets fans here and try to round the troops up and plan a game. In the end I bought 10 bleacher seats for the 21st on Stub Hub and I’m hoping to be successful on Friday at the Cubs box office, with their whole random wristband thing, for tickets on the 22nd. (If there are other local fans reading this, aim for bleacher tickets as well. There’ll be a good group of 15-20 Mets fans planning to sit out there. And of course I would love to get everyone to meet at a bar before and after the games.)

The White Sox had their tickets go on sale last Friday and my friend Jane took the lead on scoring those … See, the Yankees come to town the night of April 22nd and some of us are planning to have our own doubleheader – Mets/Cubs by day, Yanks/White Sox by night. Should be a good time. I think we all know I’ll be rooting for the White Sox that night.

I had been hearing that the Blackhawks want to host an outdoor ice hockey game. I think most people were thinking Soldier Field would be the venue for it…and then I read that they want to do it at Wrigley Field! Can we all just say awesome!?!

Trouble in rooftop paradise? Seems the Cubbies aren’t getting all the money they are owed from a revenue-sharing agreement between the Cubs and rooftop owners.

Oh and, spring training is in full gear. MetsBlog is doing a great job leading to all the beat reporters columns and other tidbits of news.
