A Fond Farewell to the 2010 Mets Season

October 4th, 2010 Posted in General

Saying this season was a disappointment is a big understatement. There were so many things that went wrong, that it will probably take a lot to get back to being a winning team.

I’m not going to rant about who should stay or go, but clearly there need to be some big changes. I think someone from the outside with no Mets ties would be best as manager and general manager. I think it would also help for the Wilpons to take a step back from day to day things. We don’t really know how much they are involved in, but I always wonder how other team owners operate.

I’m hoping numerous players can get back to full health and be back for a strong 2011. A healthy team, along with the addition of some new players, and the subtraction of Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo, could go a long way.

Regardless of what happens, this isn’t the first rough patch for the Mets in my time as a fan. And it probably won’t be the last. I will always stick with this team, even if I may not bitch and rant so publicly as others do. I’m sure it helps that I don’t live in New York anymore where I’d see the daily newspapers and hear all the sports radio talk. But that doesn’t make me less of a fan.

As a small honeymoon trip, I saw the Mets in Cincinnati which was fun. I also saw them when they came to Chicago to play the Cubs. Things like my wedding and my honeymoon to Ireland hindered other road games, but I’m hoping 2011 will be a different story.

I’m not going to pay close attention to the baseball playoffs this year. There isn’t one team I’m “rah-rah” for, but I sure as hell don’t want to see the Yankees or Phillies win a damn thing. And as I’ve said before on this site, I’m not in to the daily news topics that might come each day, you have MetsBlog for that.

So stick with me as I travel through hockey season. I’ve adopted the Blackhawks as my team since moving here and it has been a lot of fun.
